FLORA PINKHAM
Flora Pinkham is a representational oil painter living in central North Carolina. Her sensitive paintings reflect her love for the natural world and the beauty of ordinary experiences. Flora’s journey as an artist began at a young age, as her interest in the natural world was nurtured by her scientist parents. She spent much of her time drawing, painting and creating in many mediums, with her early art classes focused on the basics of realistic drawing.
She majored in art in college, graduating Summa Cum Laude from a small school in central Pennsylvania. Her education provided a strong foundation in representational painting as well as a beautiful pastoral setting. Inspired by her surroundings, Flora began to explore painting outdoors, often embarking on her own plein air journeys, setting up along roadsides and trails. She still paints outdoors regularly and creates still lifes and larger landscapes in her home studio.
Flora has received awards in regional and national plein air events and national shows: Award of Excellence, Oil Painters of America Salon Show 2016. 1st Place, Carolina on my Mind juried show, Visual Arts Circle 2015. Honorable Mention, Plein Air Richmond 2013
Blue Ribbon, Paint North Carolina invitational show, Germanton Gallery 2012. 2nd Place, Wayne Art Center Plein Air Festival 2010

JEAN KOLB GRUNEWALD

Jean was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and was inspired by her father, a talented classically trained artist. At an early age she started painting, winning numerous awards before college where she received a degree in Fine Art. When not painting, she studies art, lately the old illustrators and colorists. In her professional life, Jean has taught art, been a cartoonist, designed commercial art renderings and neon signs, painted portraits, executed large wall murals and exhibited and sold paintings throughout the East Coast and California. After living in California and loving the California Impressionist and the Irvine Museum, she was mainly interested in "Plein Air" painting. Moving to North Carolina, Jean has gone back to portraiture and figures, inspired and honored to have won two awards for the 2015 Portrait Society of America Members Show. Always a soft spot in her heart for horses, you can find her other paintings at the American Academy of Equine Art shows in Kentucky. She is an award winning member of Portrait Society of America and has been juried into Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society. Jean has been juried into Women Painters of the Southeast 3 consecutive years.

CECILIA GUITARTE

Oil paintings by Cecilia Guitarte have a clean graphic style with a keen eye for lighting nuances and a focus on everyday subjects elevated to high art. From sliced fruit and vegetables to mist-shrouded trees, serene skies and whimsical still lifes, Cecilia’s distinct detailed imagery stands apart “My paintings are based on photos taken around my home and on my travels. I see lines and shapes, darks and lights and try to accent what has caught my attention. I have a very logical mind, so I like to simplify the objects and the colors that I use; I liked clean lines and a smooth surface” It's no wonder Cecilia gets juried into numerous prestigious shows, including being juried into the National Oil & Acrylic Painterz Society in 2015 and 2016. In the Raleigh Fine Arts show judged by NC Museum Director Larry Wheeler and the N.E.W Show juried exhibit at VAE. BERT SULT

Architect, Bert Sult started painting cityscape watercolors a few years ago and in a short period his works have garnered a wide following.

Known predominantly for European, New York and iconic steet & landmark scenes, his loose, lively, masterful use of watercolor and expressive method of wet in wet lost edges juxtaposed with lines and figures imbue a distinctly sophisticated, nostalgic yet ethereal tone.

Combining controlled washes with soft edges against areas of line and detail creating intentional light, shadow and shape patterns livened up with people moving the viewer around the scene is a lifetime goal many watercolorists pursue and Sult's work rises to this challenge consistently.

Bert Sult has been in numerous group & solo exhibits throughout NC.

Michael Gallagher was born in Los Angeles, California in 1945. He studied at Yale University School of Art & Architecture in New Haven, Connecticut where he received a Master of Fine Arts in 1970. He was awarded Yale University's Eli Harwood Schless Memorial Award for Drawing & Painting. While there he studied with Jack Tworkov, Lester Johnson, Al Held and Josef Albers. He also studied at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, California where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1968. He attended the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) where he studied with David Hockney, Alfred Leslie and Tony Berlant. His undergraduate studies included a fellowship to Yale University's Summer School of Music and Art in CT.

His work has been exhibited internationally and is in numerous public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, NY), Guggenheim Museum (New York, NY), Smithsonian American Art Museum (Washington DC), The Byer Museum of the Arts (Evanston, IL), The Edwin Ulrich Museum (Wichita, KA), The Frederick Weisman Foundation (Beverly Hills, CA), The Wharton School of Business (Philadelphia, PA).

JOHN VICKERY (1906-1983) John Vickery was born in Victoria, Australia in 1906. He studied at the National Gallery School in Melbourne. He exhibited briefly in Melbourne before leaving for New York in 1936 to pursue his interest in Cubism and Vorticism. In New York, Vickery became friends with Philip Guston, Willem de Kooning, and Joan Mitchell during the 1950's and the only Australian in the New York School. Vickery soon became disenchanted with the commercialization of the art world after the explosion of Abstract Expressionism, and continued to develop his interest in Op Art. For Vickery these artworks were created for the appeal of the eye rather than the heart or mind. His works subtly vibrate and pulsate, heightening the viewer's sensory perceptions and the process of looking at art. Vickery's work is in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victory , the New Jersey State Museum, Trenton, the Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha, among others. Vickery died in 1983
